
NEW: PPS Minority/Women Business Enterprise Advisory Committee (M/WBE) to host a Small Business Roundtable with Congressman Bobby Scott
The PPS M/WBE Enterprise Advisory Committee will host a Small Business Roundtable tomorrow, May 26, from 9:30-11:30 a.m., on the sixth floor of the Portsmouth City Hall building. Congressman Bobby Scott will hear the needs of M/WBEs post COVID-19 and how he can help small businesses at the federal level. The M/WBE Advisory Committee worked with more than 300 M/WBEs in the region during the pandemic and continues to do so as businesses seek to stay afloat. M/WBE Chair LaKeesha Atkinson will be in attendance with Congressman Scott to hear about the priorities for small businesses and business owners. PPS Career & Technical Education Signing Day returns June 1
Portsmouth Public Schools will be celebrating students who are entering the workforce following graduation with the division’s Career and Technical Education Signing Day. At the Signing Day, students will be joined by their future employers as they make official their post-graduation plans. Also during the event, students throughout the division who earned an industry credential (a recognized credential by industries used and/or needed for hiring, retaining or promoting staff) while in school will also be recognized. The event will take place Thursday, June 1, at 6 p.m., at Churchland High School.
SEAC holding first annual Community Resource Fair
The Portsmouth Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) is holding its first annual Community Resource Fair. Students and families are invited to S.H. PPS to honor retirees at 2023 Retirement Ceremony
The school division will honor dozens of its retirees at this year’s 2023 Retirement Ceremony, which will be held Tuesday, June 6, at 6 p.m., at The Edmonds Center (2714 Frederick Blvd, Portsmouth, VA 23704). Employees will be acknowledged for their decades of service to the division.
Title I Summer Resource Fest taking place June 7
The Office of Title I and Special Programs is hosting the Title I Summer Resource Fair Wednesday, June 7, from 4-5:30 p.m. There will be resources on hand to provide for students for the summer break, and there will be a raffle for a free bicycle thanks to event sponsor Mercy Drops.
