There are many reasons Portsmouth Public Schools may need to put a school (or the entire division) back to virtual learning for a brief time (including inclement weather; quarantine protocols, etc). Here, learn more about what Virtual Learning Days will look like and what your child’s schedule will be on these days.

How are Virtual Learning Days different from Asynchronous Days?
On Virtual Learning Days, students will receive live instruction during the day from their teacher and attendance is taken each day/block.

On asynchronous days, learning is independent. Teachers are available through email, but students work on their assignments at their own pace. Attendance is not taken, but students are responsible for completing their work. Please note: The Virtual Learning Day schedules below can also be used as a resource for students on how to manage their time on asynchronous learning days.

What if I do not have access to the internet at home?
Portsmouth Public Schools has mobile hotspots that are available for checkout. If internet connectivity is a concern, please reach out to your school’s principal or call the PPS Technology Call Center at 757-393-6432.

Virtual Learning Schedules

High School Virtual Half Day Schedule

High school students are expected to log into all four classes at the beginning of each block utilizing the Zoom link located on their Schoology class page. Students will be marked present for each class based on attendance in the live zoom session and/or completion of assigned work.

Middle School Virtual Half Day Schedule

Middle school students should log into all five classes at the beginning of each block utilizing the Zoom link located on their Schoology class page. Students will be marked virtually present for each class based on attendance in the live zoom session and/or completion of assigned work.

Elementary School Virtual Half Day Schedule: Kindergarten – 3rd Grade

Elementary School Virtual Half Day Schedule: 4th – 6th Grade

Elementary school students may receive both live instruction and be asked to do independent work during each block in order to limit the amount of screen time. As such, students should check their teacher’s Schoology page for details on specific times for live instruction. “Core” indicates English, math, science or social studies.
