Churchland High School Science Teacher Isaiah Marriner will be honored as a “Rising Leader” by The
Urban League of Hampton Roads. Marriner will be one of just eight distinguished leaders to be honored
at the organization’s 37th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Leaders Event.
According to the Urban League, the annual event, held on Dr. King’s birthday, recognizes his life and
legacy, and presents awards to those dedicated to social justice, community service/volunteerism,
health, workforce development, leadership and philanthropy. Specifically, Marriner and his fellow seven
honorees were selected because they “promote positive images, exemplify community service,
demonstrate the values modeled by Dr. King and show evidence of the impact their contributions make
on the lives of others in the Hampton Roads community.”
“Now more than ever, our community, our region and our nation are facing an uncertain future, but we
are committed to moving forward together into 2021 and the honorees for our event in January are
leading the way,” Gilbert Bland, Urban League of Hampton Roads president and CEO, said in a press
release. “We invite everyone to learn how the Urban League collaborates with our community to
empower and to support social initiatives throughout the Hampton Roads region.”
