PPS School Reopening for 2020-2021

Updated 1/8/2021
At its Jan. 7 reorganizational meeting, the School Board of the City of Portsmouth voted to postpone any further reopening discussions until the city had a positivity rate that was below 10 percent for a period of 10 consecutive days. At the time of the vote, the city’s positivity rate was still above 18 percent.

Previously, the division had set Tuesday, Jan. 19, as the date all employees were to return to their physical work locations on their normal operating schedules. Additionally, a phased-in approach to returning to school was to begin Feb. 2.

In making its original decision to reopen in a virtual setting, the Board took into consideration feedback received from the Portsmouth Health Department, Portsmouth Education Association, the Portsmouth Council of PTAs as well as preliminary survey data from staff and parents.
