PPS School Reopening for 2020-2021

Updated 11/18/2020
At its Tuesday, Nov. 17 meeting, the Portsmouth School Board set Tuesday, Jan, 19, 2020 as the date all employees will be expected to return to their physical work locations on their normal operating schedules. In addition, at that meeting administration identified and the School Board approved the dates when students can return to school in 2021. Those dates are: Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021 for Pre-K through Grade 3; Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 for Grades 4, 5 and 6; and Monday, Mar. 1, 2021 for Grades 7 through 12.

Students who report to school will be those students whose parents choose the hybrid model for them (two half-days of instruction and three days of virtual learning). A virtual learning option, which involves all instruction being delivered online, will continue to be offered through the end of the school year for those students whose parents choose that option for them.

In making its original decision to reopen in a virtual setting, the Board took into consideration feedback received from the Portsmouth Health Department, Portsmouth Education Association, the Portsmouth Council of PTAs as well as preliminary survey data from staff and parents.
