Portsmouth Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Elie Bracy, III has been elected to serve as the next President-Elect for the Urban Superintendents Association of America (USAA). Bracy will serve in this capacity beginning Jan. 1, 2022, and will then automatically move on to serve as President beginning Jan. 1, 2023.

USAA is a professional association of more than 150 public school superintendents who serve mid-size urban districts (such as Portsmouth) in the United States and Canada. According to the USAA, this association provides opportunities to learn from experts and to share solutions to issues they each face.

“As you know, to be respected by your peers is the highest form of professional recognition,” C. Fred Bateman, executive director of USAA, wrote in an email to Portsmouth School Board Chairman Dr. Cardell Patillo. “Dr. Elie Bracy is nationally respected. Indeed, the members of the Nominating Committee who put his name on the ballot are from Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Nebraska…You have every reason to be proud.”
