In a special meeting of the School Board of the City of Portsmouth, the Board voted to appoint Costella Williams as the interim member of the Board, filling the position left by De’Andre Barnes following his election to City Council. Williams will serve this role beginning Jan. 20 through Nov. 2.
Williams is a veteran School Board member, choosing not to run for re-election in 2020. Prior to that decision, she spent 12 years serving on the Board after first being elected in 2008. In her time on the Board, she had served as vice-chairwoman as well as on a number of the division’s committees, including Human Resources and Curriculum and Instruction.
