The School Board of the City of Portsmouth is holding two public hearings to discuss the proposed naming of the I.C. Norcom High School football field after former coach and educator Horace Savage, Jr.
The public hearings will be held Monday, Oct. 27 and Tuesday, Oct. 28. Both meetings will take place at 6 p.m. at I.C. Norcom High School (1801 London Blvd, Portsmouth, VA 23704).
Those interested in speaking must register prior to the start of the meeting by emailing the Clerk of the Board at jillian.cheeks@portsk12.com. The meetings will be recorded and posted later on the division’s YouTube channel.
For those who cannot attend the public meetings, but would like to submit comments or name suggestions for consideration can do so. All suggestions must be submitted in writing and include the following: 1) Comments/Suggested name; 2) Name, address, and phone number of person(s) submitting suggestion; and 3) Rationale for suggested name.
All suggested names should be submitted to School Board Vice Chair Lakeesha Atkinson, Chair of the Committee, via the Clerk of the School Board, P. O. Box 998, Portsmouth, Virginia, 23705.
