Portsmouth Public Schools (PPS) Superintendent Dr. Elie Bracy, III has been elected to serve as the next president of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS). In being elected to this role, Bracy will represent all 132 school divisions across the Commonwealth.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to promote work across Virginia and the nation in support of public education,” Bracy said. “I am truly grateful for the trust and support of my colleagues. As we know, the real strength of VASS is the people in it. I’m committed to working hard alongside our division leaders to keep building on what has already been achieved.”
Bracy’s term will begin July 1, 2025 and he will serve for the entire 2025-26 school year.
According to its website, VASS is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the mission of providing leadership and advocacy for public education in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It was founded in 1885, and has been identified as a prominent leader among all Virginia education organizations with its influence in the field and in policy making at both state and federal levels.
