Churchland High School has once again been named one of the nation’s best high schools by U.S. News and World Report. According to the publication, the rankings include data on more than 27,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia.
“Receiving this national recognition is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the dedication, hard work and commitment of the Churchland community,” said Portsmouth Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Elie Bracy, III. “We are incredibly proud to see our Truckers recognized among the nation’s best schools, and even more proud of the people who make this achievement possible.”
In order to earn a “Best High School” designation, schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college. Specifically, U.S. News noted that the highest-ranked U.S. public schools are those “whose students demonstrated outstanding outcomes above expectations in math, reading and science state assessments, earned qualifying scores on an array of college-level exams, and graduated in high proportions.”
