Norcom student wins first place in global music competition

I. C. Norcom High School’s Courtney Connor II has earned first place in the 2022 Indie Film Music Contest, a global competition for aspiring composers with a focus on musical storytelling.

According to the Indie Film Music Contest website, applicants were given a choice between two original animated short films and tasked with composing a score that best accompanied the action on screen.

“I think the biggest impact has been seeing how I've grown and progressed throughout the years,” Connor said as he reflected on this competition. “Since 2018, I've put in hard work and dedication into writing music, and it has finally paid off.

Connor’s tenacious work ethic has not only left an impression on the judges of the competition, it has been evident to all of his teachers at Norcom.

“I know that Courtney can achieve his goals because he is an exemplary student with a go-getter attitude,” said Genell Holloman, Connor's economics teacher. “This will not be the last time his accomplishments make headlines.”

Connor, currently a junior, is confident that this achievement - coupled with his studies at the Governor’s School for the Arts - will greatly aid his future efforts in pursuing a career in filmmaking.
