Dr. Bracy serving as President of Urban Superintendents Association of America
Sunday, Jan. 1, Portsmouth Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Elie Bracy, III was installed as President of the Urban Superintendents Association of America (USAA), a professional association of more than 150 public school superintendents who serve mid-size urban districts (such as Portsmouth) in both the United States and Canada. USAA works to provide opportunities to learn from experts and to share solutions to issues they each face.
“As a member of USAA, I have benefited from the experiences and insights of my colleagues who are facing similar opportunities and challenges,” Bracy said. “I am humbled and honored to now take on this leadership role and share our own expertise from the work we are doing in Portsmouth each day.”
Bracy will serve in this capacity through Dec. 31, and he will then automatically move on to serve as Past President beginning Jan. 1, 2024.
“As you know, to be respected by your peers is the highest form of professional recognition,” C. Fred Bateman, executive director of USAA, wrote in an email to Portsmouth School Board Chairman Dr. Cardell Patillo after he was elected in 2021. “Dr. Elie Bracy is nationally respected. Indeed, the members of the Nominating Committee who put his name on the ballot are from Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Nebraska…You have every reason to be proud.”
