Dual Enrollment

Graduates

The Portsmouth Public Schools (PPS) Dual Enrollment program is a partnership with Tidewater Community College (TCC) that allows high school students to meet high school graduation requirements and simultaneously earn college credit.

Students can begin taking courses as early as ninth grade, after taking prerequisite courses. Students can then move on to the Early College Academy or even become a part of First College, where they can earn an associate’s degree while still in high school (see programs for eligibility requirements.)

This provides students college-level instruction by qualified faculty during normal school hours, and can reduce both the time and cost in pursuing post-secondary education (college degrees). In addition, by taking part in the dual enrollment program, students have access to college resources, including academic advising and career counseling.
