The Commonwealth of Virginia is in the process of implementing an Enhancement to the SWaM Program: Micro Business Set aside Procurement

All state purchases under $10,000 shall be set aside for micro-businesses when the price quoted is fair and reasonable.

The Governor's new initiative to enhance procurement opportunities for Small Businesses with state agencies

On July 22, 2014, The Honorable Terence R. McAuliffe, Governor of Virginia, signed into effect Executive Order Number 20 for the purpose of "Advancing Equity for Small, Women, and Minority Owned Businesses". In doing so, he created a new category of 'micro-businesses'. It is incumbent upon the Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity, formerly the Department of Minority Business Enterprise, to identify those small businesses that are eligible for the micro-business designation.

As a certified Small Business by the Department, your company might qualify to be a "Micro Business".

You will need to scan and upload the following documents in one PDF file as required by the online application process:

1. Federal Form 941 (Employer's Quarterly Federal Tax Return): the first page from the most recent four quarters if your company has employees

2. Federal Tax Return: the first page showing the annual gross revenue from 2013, 2012, and 2011

Please note: If you fill out the online application more than once, only the latest submission will be reviewed.

We will review your submission and email you if your firm meets the definition of this new micro-business designation.
